Glenn Beck – 2009 Misinformer of the Year

Only the most partisan of fools would disagree. Yes, I am referring to the entire Fox News audience.

That was great. I would have absolutely nothing against Glenn Beck if The Glenn Beck Show was a sitcom. Sadly, it’s not. The guy is serious and he’s seriously tea-total nutso.

  2. laurieD says:

It’s just a matter of time before Beck blows up. Mental illness can only be hidden for so long.

  3. anteater says:

Quite an accomplishment considering the competition he had. Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity, Bachman, Palin

  4. janine says:

That’s an honor GB, you had to spew a lot of lies in order to win this title. I’d laugh about it all, because it is very funny, but then I think of all those misguided audience members who take every word he speaks as the gospel, and that is sad

  5. Frances says:

On a related note, I came across this comment from Krugman’s blog the NYT site: http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/14/ah-civility/

Who needs facts when you have lunatics like Malkin (called by fellow-students “The Eva Braun of Oberlin”) and Beck to do our thinking for us? What a time-saver. I mean, who comments on an obituary page by copy/pasting trash comments from Michelle Malkin’s blog? Hateful, ignorant people, that’s who.

  6. defolts says:

How do you know he is serious? did you ever stop to think he knows who his audience is? they are the people that don’t read, they have been taught that the “mainstream Media” has a liberal bias/leftwing bias. he know exactly who he is playing to, he can tell them what what he wants or what the various conservative groups want because he knows they will never bother to check if it is true. the only thing the left in this country does is when they talk about racial or ethnic issues they tend to jump all over something a white person does whether it is an attack or some one like John Rocker but totally ignoring brown on black violence or when someone like Dennis Rodman says “what that fat honky” in reference to Babe Ruth, total silence, other than that you average liberal can be bothered with checking facts or picking up a newspaper, reading a magazine like the economist or progressives like Randi Rhodes, Markos Moulitsas… can be bothered with serving their country unlike Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly…
there is big difference here, you generally can have a show aimed at a liberal audience that they just makes stuff up, with Conservatives it works.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERY ONE!!!

  8. Tommy Pane says:

What you have with Beck is a man who is genuinely concerned for the future of our country. As much as liberals see a country with fundemental flaws that need correcting, he sees a once great country whose citizens are slowly losing their freedoms because of the lies they’re being fed by those very liberals.

Liberals feel that people need to be herded and manipulated into being good citizens. He wants more individual freedom for everyone, liberals and conservatives alike, because he believes that when individuals are granted freedom, they grant others freedom. Free individuals are more personally and socially responsible than people with limited options. Liberal policies limit individual options.

What does it say about any organization that would mock a person who passionately wants each of us to enjoy greater individual freedom? What does it say about you? Talk about a bunch of mindless sheep. You guys don’t even know that you’re being taught to build your own cages. You’re all so blinded by liberal promises of a future paradise that you think a man who’s yelling at you to wake up is an enemy.

He’s telling you to WAKE UP!, and you’re cheering for the guys telling him to SHUT UP!

  9. @Tommy – I think you have Beck all wrong. I think he’s a complete fraud…but let’s say I’m wrong and you’re right. Let’s say he has the interests of the country at heart. Answer me this please. If his cause is true, then why does he lie and propagate misinformation on each and every show? Why?

And if you deny that he does, then you’re just not listening.

Anyone who has a shred of decency and honesty would not, for example, make the statement that the president has a fundamental hatred for white people.

  10. Frances says:

@Tommy Pane, Beck is speaking to whoever is stupid enough to buy gold at peak price. He’s speaking to whoever is paranoid about anyone who isn’t just like themselves. He speaks to maudlin old people. He speaks to people who don’t want to pay their taxes. He speaks to people who feel the need to stockpile weapons. He speaks to the fruitcakes that have replaced the bread in American’s Bread Basket.

Nobody promises paradise. Liberals seek social justice and personal freedom. For you to believe otherwise tells me you haven’t learned very much about “us”. Individual freedom does not have to mean “every man for himself”.

  11. Tommy Pane says:

Beck isn’t preaching to the choir. He’s trying to wake you up. Believe me, we all are.

What you take as lies coming from Beck, are perceived as such by you because of the lies you’ve already fallen for. Imagine how you’ll feel if it turns out that he was actually speaking truths.

I’ve learned much about liberals on this blog. It’s been eye opening. I believe that the justice liberals are working to impose on society will decrease personal freedom.

  12. I’m surprised at you Tommy. I’m not referring to opinion. I’m talking about facts. You confuse the two. Beck is a chronic liar. He makes up stuff. He distorts facts. He’s a fear-monger. And he’s delusional and a conspiracy theorist.

Republicans and obviously libertarians too, have lost all sense of truth and fact. If it sounds right, if it carries the message then all is fair. Say anything, no matter how ludicrous ’cause all that counts is the end result.

I think your sense of “personal freedom” is misguided, cold and, honestly, quite revolting. But that’s me.

  13. Tommy Pane says:

“I think your sense of “personal freedom” is misguided, cold and, honestly, quite revolting. But that’s me.”

That scares the hell out of me. It makes me sad.

  14. Don’t be sad. In case you’re not sure of where the emphasis should be placed in my statement, it is not in “personal freedom”. It’s in “your sense of…”

Your sense of “personal freedom” is like a good idea on steroids. You apply it to everything and disregard anything in its path. While it might look good on paper, it is worthless in a real world with real people…both the virtuous and the flawed.

  15. Tommy Pane says:

Do you think that my sense of personal freedom means “every man for himself”?

  16. Tommy Pane says:

For several months, I’ve been following this blog to gain some insight into the thinking of liberals. This morning, I finally figured it out.

Liberals fear/resent individual freedom. At some point in their past, they judged individual freedom as dangerous. That belief is now a part of their unconscious thinking and injects itself, as a hidden equation, into their daily decision making process. It isn’t something that’s consciously known to the individual liberal. They don’t know why they think the way they do. They just feel “in their heart” that individuals with too much freedom will abuse others.

Each individual’s path to this hidden consensus is different, but the result is a group think that resonates with liberals on an unconscious level. It binds them together as a group.

The “cure” for liberalism then, starts with the recognition that this believe exists within you. Once you’ve tracked down this unconscious believe, it will lose its ability to influence your decisions without your consent. You can then start to replace it with conscience beliefs. Here are some of mine.

“Free will is our most basic right.”

“A free individual has a greater sense of responsibility than a constricted individual.”

    “Individual freedom promotes personal responsibility.”

“Free individuals encourage freedom for others.”

There are many more, but hopefully these will help to speed some of you on your way to recovery.

  17. Frances says:

@Tommy Pane, you do not appear to have gained any insight whatsoever into liberals. I agree with the 4 points you have quoted, but I don’t really understand how those points and the somewhat irrational (IMO) musings about liberals have come from the same person.

  18. janine says:

    @Tommy Pane

To say that liberals judge individual freedoms as dangerous is ludicrous.
