Checking in on those wonderful town hall meetings…
Arlen Specter and his town hall love-fest…
One man threatened the senator with God’s wrath. “One day, God’s gonna stand before you,” he said. “And he’s gonna judge you and the rest of your damn cronies up on the Hill, and then you can get your just desserts.”
.
Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), faces a hostile crowd at a packed health care town hall in Michigan.
But who was actually populating this angry mob? Although town-hall meetings are intended for constituents of congressional members’ districts, some if not a majority of attendees seemed to have come from further away.
Members of Congress routinely ask constituents to sign in when they attend town halls so they can contact them later and gauge where people are coming from. Dingell spokesman Adam Benson estimated that roughly 500 people showed up for the meeting, and half didn’t sign in at all. Of the 262 who did, 80 listed addresses inside Dingell’s district; 100 listed addresses outside the district; and 82 didn’t put down an address at all.
This adds credence to the fact that these are astroturf protests. Surprise!
Polling shows that Americans – especially those who already have coverage – are skeptical of the Democratic proposals to expand coverage to the nearly 50 millions who lack it. So Obama will use a potentially boisterous town hall-style meeting in New Hampshire to highlight how his proposals would affect workers whose employers provide their health insurance.
Conservatives have succeeded in turning the health care debate into a circus. Why do they hate America so much?

And then there’s this guy http://thinkprogress.org/2009/08/10/gladney-uninsured/
who is a conservative health care reform protester. He got hurt at a health care town hall scuffle, was treated at the hospital and is now soliciting funds to pay for his treatment because, guess what?? he lost his job and doesn’t have health care…..
Janine…I guess one point is if the Union Thugs hadn’t assaulted him, he wouldn’t be needing treatment.
I watched Specter’s Town Hall meeting. (I also watched the President’s Fluff Ball meeting.) This video is not truly representative of the dialog. Here is a video a little more representative of the nature of the dialog and questioning that took place:
both sides in the town hall meeting where Gladney was got out of control. By your statement you must think Gladney was just an innocent bystander, calmly putting forth his point of view and it would seem you refuse to take into account any culpability on Gladney’s part.
Again, this is what happens when thugs meet, it gets out of control and they piss all over each other for territory.
I watched the video you presented about Specter’s Town Hall meeting and what I saw and heard were a bunch of folks being disrespectful and disruptive at a meeting where they clearly did not want to hear the answers Specter was giving.
They are like two year old children having a tantrum, they need a time out. They need to act like the adults there outer appearance suggests they are and have respect for the protocol and process of a town hall meeting or a round table discussion. One can express one’s opinion in a civil manner without the cat calls, boos and accompanying vitriol.
These loudmouths are just trying to throw sand in the gears. They lost an election but think still think only the legislation they want should pass. What makes me maddest is that most are white-haired seniors with a Medicare card in their pocket and want the government to stay out of their health care. My vote is to oblige them. Let big insurance give them a quote and then listen to them howl.

One attendee said “I’m angry that you ignore the law of the Constitution that requires Obama to prove that he is a natural born citizen,” and then the man not only confirmed his “birther” views, but said he was contacted by Ben Marchi to distribute Americans for Prosperity talking points and signs at the event. Marchi is the Virginia state director of Americans for Prosperity and a former staffer for former Republican Majority Leader Rep. Tom Delay (R-TX). ”

Good point Sara about the seniors with a Medicare card in their pocket wanting the government to stay out of their health care.
