Theologically speaking, the two parties have divided the Seven Deadly Sins as follows: Republicans oppose lust, sloth and envy; Democrats scorn gluttony, greed, wrath and pride.
Good line.
Infidelity has no political party affiliation nor does it understand a single mindset or philosophy or religion. It is nonpartisan in every sense of the word. Some walk away from it unscathed while others fall prey to it. Many understand this. Conservatives appear not to.
The Sanford incident brings all of this to mind.
With respect to Gov. Mark Sanford, it’s probably always a mistake for a Puritan to visit Latin America. A handsome cardiologist’s son, he married money, went into real estate, then politics. Like many South Carolina aristocrats, he’s an Episcopalian. However, like most Southern Republicans, Sanford talked like a biblical fundamentalist: piously condemning others’ sexual sins and boasting about his own righteousness.
Such simple-minded certitudes often fail to survive exposure to the wider world. One dark-eyed temptress and it all comes undone.
Conservatives are prone to this type of thing. They’ve elevated the art of moral hypocrisy to a science. As for Sanford, he really needs to just shut up and go away for awhile. We really don’t need to know more about his Argentinian affair. (“I met my soulmate.” Sheesh…) As a conservative pundit remarked, he really is embarrassing himself.

I too agree with the premise of this article but disagree that it is ideologically slanted.
The writer differentiates between the ideologies and merely points out that if one is going to advocate a family, honesty and fidelity platform, as some conservatives (and yes some dems) are wont to do, then the fall from grace is going to be harder and louder when it is discovered one is not what one espoused.
Let’s walk our talk, then we won’t have to hear about the transgressions of these double standard bearers.
As you indicated, it’s so much more annoying when the self righteous fall. Will they ever learn to just shut up and stop telling others how to live?
You know, I actually pretty much agree with the premises of this article. I just think it’s kinda sad to slant it toward any particular ideology.
Some people just can never seem to step aside from their biases.
