How do Republicans live with themselves? Nothing points out their hypocrisy more than the health care debate. RNC chairman Michael Steele in a speech he’ll give today…
“Obama-Pelosi want to start building a colossal, closed health care system where Washington decides. Republicans want and support an open health care system where patients and doctors make the decisions.”
The problem here is not one of opposing President Obama’s health care plan. It’s doing it on the basis of the same lies they’ve been using since Clinton tried his reform. Statements like “closed health care system” are ridiculous. The president has made it clear that his plan will offer a public plan in addition to keeping the private plan in place.
Also, making the repeated claim that under the current system “patients and doctors make the decisions” is a blatant lie. It’s the health insurers who have the final say. They know it but hey, repeat the same lie enough times and some fool will believe it.
Again…having valid arguments in opposition to any reform is fine and welcome. But to spout outright lies as Republicans and some Democrats are doing is totally unacceptable regardless of the issue at hand but even more so when it comes to health care. While these buffoons bow to the health industry’s lobbyists and repeat their tired talking points, people suffer.
In response, Obama is planning a full out assault this week in laying out his plan.
With skepticism about the president’s health-care reform effort mounting on Capitol Hill — even within his own party — the White House has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to dramatically increase public pressure on Congress: all Obama, all the time.
Healthy debate and honest attempts at fixing a broken system is a good thing. Proposing amendments which would strengthen the proposed plan is also a good thing. Endlessly and knowingly repeating lies is sinful.
