David Frum appears to be the only sane conservative left out there. He discusses the extent to which Republicans have hurt themselves by choosing the obstructionist way. Smart stuff.

When David Frum is the voice of conservative reason, we are all in trouble. Let’s remember he is the author of the ‘Axis of Evil’ phrase that lumped N. Korea, Iraq, and Iran together as all lilnked in their posing a ginormous menace to American security. This at a time that Iran was working WITH us to oust the Taliban in Afghanistan. No matter how sane he sounds now, without a soul implant, he is just a rotten as the rest of those crazies on the lawn screaming insults at black democratic reps (they are easily idenetified as dems since there are not black republicans in congress) in front of the capital yesterday.
The GOP has chosen to reopen Lee Atwater’s Southern Strategy playbook. They have let the genie out of the bottle by fanning the flames of fear and bigotry and they have no way to control it. This all began with Palin coming on stage with all her nonsense about the “real” America and trying to make Obama the “other” (they’re still working on that), calling him a socialist, communist, terrorist supporter, etc. They did nothing to condemn people when they called out “traitor” in the crowds. Not one was shamed, nor are the doing it now. They say nothing to the crowds (and often encourage) and then go on a media tour and deny they heard or saw anything. They are condoning these acts and this is going to end badly. They have so misrepresented the health care bill in an effort to regain power that they have added to the fear people already feel because of the economy.
They should take a good long look in the mirror and consider doing some serious soul searching. They are so power hungry they have slipped into stupid territory. Eventually, I fear, someone is going to be seriously hurt, if not killed.
The disgraceful attitude toward the gentleman in Ohio with Parkinson’s was an example of where this is headed.
I’ve come to the conclusion that if people were dying of hunger on the streets, they would not pay anyone to pick up the bodies as that would be a burial entitlement.
The GOP has not only lost their way, they’ve lost their soul.

Sandi I have to say it just shows how loony the loons have become when David Frum is suddenly the sanest voice in the room …
Not that I’m a FrumFan because he does have some whacked points of view — but here he gives the appearance of intelligent and reasoned opinion
