I’ve been debating global warming for years and the one thing I’ve discovered is how little so many actually know about a phenomena which has been at the top of the news for the last 20 years. We tend to get our information in bits and pieces from whatever sources we use to get informed. For the most part, many don’t really care to know the actual facts and prefer to piggyback onto the views of their favorite teevee personality.
And with that intro, I introduce potholer54, a science writer who has produced a number of intelligent and informative videos on climate change. Over the next few days, I’ll showcase his climate change video series which, if nothing else, should give you a sound understanding of the facts and a deeper appreciation of what is at stake. It avoids propaganda and politics and gets to the core of the debate. Enjoy. .

Honestly, without addressing the whole issue of “Climate Change” and it’s inherent dangers to the Earth….we watched a special on History Channel (I think. It was a ’2012′ explanation thing) that explained in layman’s terms a lot of things about the Earth’s Magnetic poles and how they protect the Earth from many things.
Guys, if you look into it, our existence is pretty tenuous and completely dependent on any number of circumstances over which we have absolutely no control.
I think if one were to really inform one’s self about all the dangers, one MIGHT reach the conclusion that Mankind’s contribution to Climate Change is one of the least dangers we face in a hostile universe.
In reality, humans could be brushed from the face of this Planet like an irritating gnat with little consequence to anything…. but Us!
@Deniers: A specific person & known radical right winger has flip flopped on this, so, that said, it’s obviously not going to matter what we say. When Global Warming becomes the disaster it’s destined by man/womankind to be, I hope the deniers don’t have any future relations left. It won’t be a pleasant life, AND, it can’t be undone at that point. You won’t be able to apologize for this disasterous error either, so maybe you just don’t care. Perhaps you feel it won’t matter to you because *you* won’t be here. In that case, I hope reincarnation is accurate so that you have to suffer with everyone else for destroying this beautiful planet. Personally, I love our planet, even though I won’t be here when it gets particularly nasty, but I don’t want anyone else to anguish for our stupidity. Well, almost everyone. ;-) -Anomaly-
The earth’s atmosphere is going to change no matter what. It has over billions of years. But we humans are contributing to accelerating the process.
Ford made his car and the industrial revolution brought us to what we have today. Yes indeed. The same scientists that invented all these things that are causing global warming now want to talk about it. Ironic, isn’t it. Too many brilliant minds inventing things that are dangerous to the earth and consequently humans. Now all these brilliant minds want to fix it.
I loved this video and look forward to part two and the skeptic’s side of the story. The question is not whether the earth is warming – all are in agreement, it is whether the earth is warming due to what we are doing. In other words, what is the “design tolerance” of Earth and what does it take to exceed that tolerance?
I’ve deleted a lot of the comments on this post because they were obscuring the thread. I can tolerate the odd personal smack if it’s in keeping with making a point relevant to the thread. I have less tolerance when the statements have NOTHING at all to do with the topic.
It is unfair to others who wish to comment but are put off by the personal remarks.

@mario the illustration is very moving.

How brilliant are the scientists?
anon, so if you like polar bears so much, what did you think of this commercial?

Jeez. The climate is changing right here.
I personally do not think any brilliant mind is going to fix this. This is beyond repair. They are just attempting to ameliorate the unstoppable.
