Just when you thought that Obama Derangement Syndrome had maxed out the lunacy index, this comes out of Georgia.
A House Republican this week – backed by 93 other lawmakers – proposed a law that would force presidential and vice presidential candidates to prove their citizenship before landing on the Georgia ballot.
House Bill 401 would not allow a candidate on the ballot until the Secretary of State receives “adequate evidence of such person’s eligibility for election” to those offices. The bill’s sponsor is Mark Hatfield, R-Waycross, but has huge backing with other GOP members.
“I think the issue with our sitting president has been left unresolved for a significant length of time that people have concerns,” Hatfield said. “But this is not just about our current president. It’s about enforcing the constitutional provisions for anyone who seeks the office of presidency.
The Constitution. It’s always about the Constitution and nothing about birthers being crazy racists who cannot accept a black man as their president. Whatever. These idiots accomplish little more than reinforce the belief in the minds of independents as well as the sane of both political parties that the GOP is the place where bigots, racists and the dim-witted all converge in one grand display of STOOPID.
For the record, Georgia becomes the11th state with pending legislation of this kind. They join Arizona, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Indiana, Tennessee and Maine. I can’t wait for those Koch brothers paid attack ads next year. I’m sure they’ll be lovely.
“This is the White House strategy, they love this. Look, the President could come out and say ‘Here are the documents,’ but they are happy to have this controversy continue.”
“Every moment the conservatives talk about this, they marginalized themselves and diminish themselves in the minds of independent voters.”
a) The people who were required to see the documents, have seen them. End of story. The President issued his birth certificate and there is no need to cater further to the lunatic fringe of the Republican party. By the way, it’s getting increasingly more difficult to refer to the kooks on the right as being part of a ‘fringe’. The right-wing fringe has gone mainstream.
b) If this was a “White House strategy”, it’s a damn good one. Birthers are conservatives and Republicans and voters should be reminded of this fact at every opportunity. They were not created by Dems but instead emerged from the bigoted, idiot wing of the Republican party. Birthers are conservatives who are unwilling to accept a black man as their President.
Sorry Karl, but these idiots are part of the folks you counted on to vote for George W. Bush. You loved them then. You’re stuck with them now.
Always nice when justice is served…especially in the case of birthers.
An Army doctor who disobeyed orders to deploy to Afghanistan because he questioned President Barack Obama’s eligibility to be commander in chief was sentenced by a jury Thursday to six months in a military prison and dismissal from the Army.
The military jury spent nearly five hours deliberating punishment for Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin on Thursday after three days of court martial proceedings at Fort Meade, outside Baltimore.
Lakin was convicted of disobeying orders – he had pleaded guilty to that count – and missing a flight that would have gotten him to his eventual deployment.
[...]
In online videos posted on YouTube, Lakin aligned himself with the so-called “birther” movement that questions whether Obama is a natural-born citizen, as the Constitution requires for presidents, and said he was inviting his own court martial.
Lakin is now asking for leniency, admitting he should not have disobeyed orders despite his strong held birther beliefs. Too late, fool. Lakin milked this entire affair from day one as he sought the cameras and microphones. Whoever was advising this guy should also be punished for it’s hard to imagine how anyone in their right mind could have imagined this sad spectacle ending differently.
It’s not often we get to see stupidity punished so fittingly so when it does happen, a smile or two is more than warranted.
You’re not going to learn much from the following video exchange between Anderson Cooper and Texas State Rep./birther Leo Berman except what you already knew: birthers are blithering idiots. What I found of more interest was how this clip is a classic example of what any attempt to reason with a wingnut/birther/teabagger/Fox News groupie sounds and looks like: an exercise in futility.

I must confess that every now and then I drop by WorldNutDaily to check out what garbage the clowns are spewing out these days. I imagine I do it for the same reason that I pick up and glance through a National Enquirer as I wait in the checkout line at Winn-Dixie. Dumb, idle curiosity…and a deep need to know which celebrity has just given birth to an alien child. Yes, inquiring minds do want to know.
Well, to no surprise, WorldNutDaily is still hacking away at their own version of the alien birth story…the birther craze. These guys just won’t let go. These were the headings for their top stories when I checked in.

WorldNetDaily Exclusive Houston asked, ‘Where’s the birth certificate?’ Billboard campaign on presidential eligibility spreads through Texas –WND

After almost two years of this nonsense, there is still a market out there for people who enjoy their news mixed in with a whole bunch of insanity. I imagine the crazies do need something to read too.
Ok, gotta go. I’m holding up the checkout line.
