Charles Krauthammer specializes in pushing Republican talking points and a recent piece in the WaPo was no different. Health care reform (“begun one of the most massive wealth redistributions in U.S. history“), financial reform bill (“it will give the government unprecedented power in the financial marketplace“), stimulus bill (“the largest spending bill in U.S. history“)…all leading to this:
In the political marketplace, there’s now a run on Obama shares. The left is disappointed with the president. Independents are abandoning him in droves. And the right is already dancing on his political grave, salivating about November when, his own press secretary admitted Sunday, Democrats might lose the House.
Yes, President Obama’s numbers are significantly down but Krauthammer’s cause-effect reasoning is way off base. Whatever. That’s a story for another day. Here’s the part of Krauthammer’s post I wanted to emphasize and one I agree with.
I have a warning for Republicans: Don’t underestimate Barack Obama.
[...]
Obama is down, but it’s very early in the play. Like Reagan, he came here to do things. And he’s done much in his first 500 days. What he has left to do he knows must await his next 500 days — those that come after reelection.
The real prize is 2012. Obama sees far, farther than even his own partisans. Republicans underestimate him at their peril.
While Krauthammer sees his words as a warning to Republicans to not let their guard down, let it also serve as a reminder to Dems and libs that, yes, this President has done much in his first 500 days. It is still early in the game but it has become all too easy for the left to attack Obama for not having done quite everything he had promised. What did they expect? Was it to get all done in the first two years? Did they also believe that it was all going to happen in a vacuum free from the political realities that come with governing a country as polarized as this one?
Krauthammer is right, underestimate this President and you do so at your own peril.

Excellent piece. The President didn’t get where he is without a well thought out plan. He is thinking ahead. Krauthammer is correct. Don’t underestimate the President.
He’s a prop for the left, just like Bush was a prop for the right.
If that works for you Tommy, keep on believing it.
Don’t underestimate the “Machine.” It is a most powerful weapon against those who want to harm this Presidency. We have come too far to repeal anything the conservatives have to offer, which is 0.
Tommy I wonder if you are attributing the philosophy of the right to the left as if they both approach problems in the same way. Anyone who believes that Obama is a leftie prop just doesn’t get it, I think.
Before we start calling Obama and Bush props will somebody
please tell me what the pyramid with the all seeing eye on
top of it which appears on our one dollar bills means,
Tommy may well be making a valid point.
Look it up — I mean really really look it up.
Greg, The “Eye of Providence” on the back of the Great Seal (where it first appeared in US history long before our paper money existed) has been around long before the United States. But, if you are referring to the oft sighted conspiracy theories about the Freemason’s involvement in our early history you need to know that the design of the Great Seal was approved by congress about 14 years before the “all seeing eye” was adopted by the Freemasons. In addition, the only member of the committee that approved the design of the Great Seal that was a Freemason was Ben Franklin and his designs were not accepted.
In short Greg, What is your point???
I have no point, I often have no idea what I’m talking about,
this is what I get for listening to William Copper before He
done got himself shot.
I do believe in the illuminati and for some silly reason I
thought they had some control over our Government, man do I
feel stupid.
Next time before I ask a question i’ll Google it so I to can
look super smart….
P.S.
Who the hell was Ben Franklin ????
What is a “prop for the left”??
Is that an allusion to the “Left wing conspiracy”??
I smell SOCIALISM!!!!
Sorry Tom, but comparing an intelligent, articulate man like Obama to Bush (a human doorstop) is a completely indefensible position. A prop?? I guess it is easy to take shots and be glib, with no need to explain.
I think more that Obama is a thoughtful man that tries to do what he thinks is best. the problem has been whoever the democrats offer (of which I am not one) the right-wing will demonize them anyway they can, Obama is being attacked simply because he has a big D infront of his name, My first vote in 1984 was for Reagan what I have seen since then, really since the 90s is the GOP become a party of freaks with wide stances who like to wear diapers and fly off to Argentina to be with their mistresses all while preaching morality and getting a sick kick out of average americans loosing their jobs.
Illuminati, ROFLMAO…How about Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.), Templars, Rosecrutions, Aleister Crowley, Jack Parsons, L. Ron Hubbard and the Whore of Babylon. Get serious man, I was walking the walk before you could talk. Secret Societies have existed for eons but their infiltration into governments has been grossly exaggerated. Think about it, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush were both Skull and Bones along with a lot of people currently involved with our present day government. That is probably a lot more disconcerting to me than the Masonic/Illuminati influences on the early development of our country. Our most current problems is that no one bothers to check out the facts. Before you yell fire in a crowded theater you should at least smell smoke even if you don’t see the flames.
Wow you were walking the walk before before I could talk!!!!
Your openly displayed arrogance is sickening.
If I put forth a question or scenario I enjoy getting feed back
even if it proves me wrong or a little nuts but treating me like
a ignorant pathetic asshole is the sign of a coward who’s in
bad need of lessons in Human relations.
You could have well made your point without the personal attack
or maybe you dont have the skills to write in such a fashion.
Diplomacy doesnt seem to be one of your stronger skills.
Not meant as a personal attack, just stating that I have been around a very long time and have researched these things for over 40 years. If you took offense it is your issue. Nuff said.
Being part of the elder generation, myself,I’m sure TheCloudancer is just as immune to smart asses as I am.
Greg says:
I have no point, I often have no idea what I’m talking about.
Well its true I often dont have any idea as to what I’m talking
about — theres nothing smart ass about it.
And I could well be 70 years old and could well have walked the
walk—–I think this topic has worn itself out and more then
likely frustrated Mario.
Thank you Linda, I prefer the term “seasoned veteran of life” rather than “elder” but I appreciate your comments;) And yes, I am pretty much immune to the extraneous rantings of immature twits.
Does that include yourself.
