Robama Hood Submits Budget Draft

Robama Hood!

Robama Hood!

President Obama has submitted his budget plan to Congress. The summary plan is a prelude to the complete budget package which will be finalized in April and prepare the way for the next fiscal year beginning in October.

The Washington Post described the budget as follows:

President Obama delivered to Congress yesterday a $3.6 trillion spending plan that would finance vast new investments in health care, energy independence and education by raising taxes on the oil and gas industry, hedge fund managers, multinational corporations and nearly 3 million of the nation’s top earners.” “The blueprint, meanwhile, would overhaul programs across the federal bureaucracy to strengthen assistance for millions of people who have borne the consequences of what Obama called “an era of profound irresponsibility,” helping them pay for college, train for better jobs and save for retirement while taking less of their earnings in taxes.”

This year’s budget deficit will reach $1.75 trillion while next year’s deficit is predicted to be $1.2 trillion.  Obama has proposed cutting the defict in half by the end of 2012.  In part this will be achieved by allowing the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy expire at the end of next year. Republicans are already on the rampage and most soundbites coming out of conservative mouth’s point to Obama as a Robin Hood, taking from the rich and giving to the poor.  While that is an exaggeration, I kind of like it.  For 8 years, the middle class received little or nothing in tax cuts while those earning over $250,000 a year were the happy recipients of multiple tax cuts.

So yes, my conservative friends, feel free to call Obama the new Robin Hood while the rest of us portray Republicans as the evil Sheriff of Sherwood Forest.

He called the greatest archers to a tavern on the green
They vowed to help the people of the king
They handled all the troubles on the English countryside
And still found plenty of time to sing

[Chorus]

Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad (conservatives), loved by the good (everyone else)
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood

He came to Sherwood Forest (Washington) with a feather in his cap
A fighter never looking for a fight
His bow was always ready, and he kept his arrows sharp.
He used them  fighting for what was right.

[Chorus]

With Allen, Dale and Little John they had a roguish look,
They did the deed that others wouldn’t dare.
Recaptured all the money on the English country scene
And still found plenty of time to sing.

[Chorus]

The King of England knighted him the Earl of Huntington,
And that’s the way the legend goes.

Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, with his band of men
Feared by the bad (conservatives), loved by the good (everyone else)
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood!!

Very cool! I haven’t heard that song in 40 years. It brings back a lot of memories. Thanks Mario.

  2. rovan99 says:

Yes sir, Obama as Robbin’ Hood sounds just about right as he proceeds to bankrupt this country.

  3. obamaman says:

Pretty much straight up plagiarism of Colbert??

  4. mario says:

    Plagiarism??

I haven’t watched Colbert in a while but I’ll assume he had a Robin Hood segment. Not surprising. He gets his material from the same place as the rest of us…watching cable news. There’s been a number of conservatives all using the exact same talking point – Obama is taking from the rich to give to the poor. They even call him Robin Hood which is kind of dumb of them. Robin Hood was one of the good guys.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot of Robin Hood/Obama humor going around but I’ll tell you this much; none of them are going to have spent an hour and a half photoshopping a composite pic like mine!

  5. mario says:

Right…unlike what your boy Bush did for 8 years. Correct?

  6. mario says:

You’re welcome,Dan. I used to watch that Robin Hood series as a kid…always loved that song.

  7. Jill says:

You know, while the Robin Hood of lore did do his best to right the wrongs done to the common folk and was well loved by all, well almost all, he was still considered an outlaw. Are you comfortable portraying Obama as an outlaw? I’m not. I’d prefer to leave the Robin Hood line to the bad guys …

As for your illustration … I’d say that was one and a half hours well spent … it’s beautiful.

  8. obamaman says:

Sorry. But Colbert beat you on that one too. Although your hat may be better. And granted he may have had more resources at his disposal.

  9. mario says:

Jill, it’s conservatives who are calling Obama, Robin Hood. All I’m saying is that I don’t mind the comparision. After all, Robin was feared by the bad and loved by the good!

  10. Jill says:

And all I’m saying is that I don’t particularly like the comparison. OBAMA is NOT STEALING from the rich to give to the poor!!!!

    It’s out there but I don’t like it. IT’S A LIE.

  11. mario says:

I don’t want to take this Robin Hood/Obama comparison too far but I will say this; stealing is a relative term.

If I take your purse and hide it under my bed and then one night, you break into my home and retrieve your purse, can I accuse you of stealing? No, of course not…you’re just returning the purse to its rightful owner.

Now before conservatives start screaming that the rich did not steal the money they earned, I agree. This is why I don’t want to carry the Robin Hood comparison too far. The point is simply that the well-to-do got huge tax cuts under Reagan and Bush while the middle class saw their net earnings drop. It’s time to correct this injustice…and Robama Hood is the man to do it.

  12. Jill says:

“If I take your purse and hide it under my bed and then one night, you break into my home and retrieve your purse, can I accuse you of stealing? No, of course not…you’re just returning the purse to its rightful owner.”

I beg to differ. O.J. SIMPSON went to jail — not because he killed two people, BECAUSE he stole back his property. Granted he held two people hostage with a weapon to “steal back” his stuff and that was the greater crime, but stealing is a crime.

Again I DO NOT LIKE HAVING OBAMA COMPARED TO A THIEF no matter how righteous the cause.

  13. obamaman says:

Just to play the Devil’s Advocate….all this complaint about slights to President Obama makes us appear somewhat hypocritical. I don’t think any of us felt there was too great an insult to heap upon the previous President!!

  14. mario says:

    Two answers for you obamaman:

    1. Personally, it does not bother me in the least the number of criticisms the right have for Obama. Would anyone have expected differently?

    2. There existed no insult too great of which Bush was not deserving! In Bush we’re looking at a man of incompetence and low intellect. We don’t need to rehash his many failures, do we?

But hey, don’t take my word for it, simply refer to the many conservative voices at the current CPAC who have little or nothing good to say of their former leader. That, my friend, speaks volumes.

Check out my next post which will be out in a bit. It touches on this topic.
