Beyond the rhetoric, the political BS, the lies – that is, the concerted effort by the right-wing noise machine to distort and misinform at every opportunity – is the very real progress made by the Obama administration.
You might want to send the following video to every conservative on your email list. It probably won’t change their minds but it will give you the opportunity to rub the truth in their faces while having them jump through hoops trying to explain why none of it is true.
Send it to every lib on your email list too. Three and a half years of dirt from the right can play havoc with one’s recollection of this guy’s accomplishments.
Yes, Arthur L., with one hand tied behind his back. Imagine what more he could have accomplished for the good of this country with a little cooperation and bipartisanship. Instead he’s had to deal with negativism, petty criticism, jealousy, racism, paranoia, roadblocks, etc. from the other party and the conservative segment of our society. Now when he or any member of his administration cites any of his accomplishments in his first term, they are attacked for politicizing these matters. To his credit, despite all of this adversity, he has continued to take it all in stride, with grace, humor, and his head held high. As Joe Biden put it, “the man has a spine of steel”.
The latest attack against the President by John McCain makes me the angriest. He says the President is using the mission that resulted in the death of Osama Bin Laden for political gain. Although I have respect for McCain’s service to our country and the fact that he was a POW during the Vietnam war, he has used his military record as a basis for his political career and for political gain in each of his past campaigns for office. I think his putdown of the President is the pot calling the kettle black. This article by Paul Waldman in 2008 discusses in detail how McCain has used his military record for political gain over the years: http://prospect.org/article/pow-dodge
On the very night of President Obama’s inauguration Republicans were already plotting their strategy for the “failure” of the new President.
From the prologue of Robert Draper’s much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, “Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives.”
According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.).
The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) — who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.
For several hours in the Caucus Room (a high-end D.C. establishment), the book says they plotted out ways to not just win back political power, but to also put the brakes on Obama’s legislative platform.
“If you act like you’re the minority, you’re going to stay in the minority,” Draper quotes McCarthy as saying. “We’ve gotta challenge them on every single bill and challenge them on every single campaign.”
[........] “You will remember this day,” Draper reports Newt Gingrich as saying on the way out. “You’ll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown.”
Sorry — I’m on a roll today. The President has every right to toot his horn over the risk he took with the Bin Laden operation that brought about the takedown of Public Enemy #1 — that’s what you do when you’re running for reelection — you cite your accomplishments. Its no different from every politician that has run for office since the founding of our country.
Thank you Karen. I just don’t hear many soluitons from them, or even suggestions. Mostly hate this guy or fear that guy, OR gal. In their view, I don’t think Pres. Obama has done even ONE thing right. Is it even possible he’s done EVERYTHING wrong? Not even Bush did EVERYTHING wrong, I don’t think.
What accomplishments?
All of the achievements regarding medicine in this video have the potential to be reversed by the U.S. supreme court is the health care bill is declared as unconstitutional. That bill is a black mark on american history and will smear us all if it stays in place.
He has added more to the national debt that any other president in history.
A majority of those 4.2 million jobs they are so proud about were only temporary and are already gone.
They have been working on getting rid of the credit card issue for years and years. He just happened to sign the bill.
He didn’t sign the papers authorizing the troops to kill Bin Ladenuntil the day he was actually declared dead.
The middle class taxes have been slowly falling since the 40′s.
I don’t think any president has ever signed so many things in public, or taken as many vacations.
Of course republicans said ‘no’ to everything he has done. It’s all been destructive to this country.
He believes everyone has to do their fair share but takes the money from working individuals to give entitlements to people who have done nothing?
The person who decided to blame “all the vacations” that the President has had for the mess we are in, but–If a President’s time out of Washington is how you want us to judge a President of the US, let’s talk George Dubya.
What was all that time George W spent at the ranch moving tumbleweed, sittin’ by the campfire and yes all those golf games? The ranch is located in Texas, not Washington DC, just in case you are confused. Truth is Dubya spent 3 out of his 8 years in office ON VACATION !!! Maybe if he hadn’t, he would have paid attention on 9/11.
As far as the debt in this country and who caused this massive debt ?, let’s take a look at when and where all that debt started to accumulate.
Well, lets see, because of failed Republican policies that left the Nation in the “Worst Economic Crisis Since The Great Depression” AND over 3 years of Demonization and Obstruction of economic recovery…
We ended up losing millions of jobs,
Went from 43 million uninsured to nearly 50 million uninsured,
Went from 17 million on food stamps to about 46 million now on food stamps,
Have hundreds of thousands who have had to live on unemployment,
Now have employment companies saying that if you have been out of work for two years, don’t apply,
Have been told that the American Dream of home ownership is now gone (Romney’s words were, we need to become a nation of renters), and that…
Wages in the future will be so low, that middle class people should no longer plan on sending their children to college, as wages will not justify the expensive, and…..
last but not least,
we lost more revenue because lower paying jobs bring in less taxes and using that “loss” to eliminate the meager safety net for the most vulnerable of Americans.
All while refusing to tax the rich, giving the richest corporations on the planet Billions of Dollars in FREE Taxpayer money through unneeded subsidies, and refusing to address loopholes in the tax system that provide the means for millionaires and billionaires to pay little to NO TAXES!
Republicans = We caused the “WORST ECONOMIC CRISIS SINCE THE GREAT DEPRESSION” and have demonized and obstructed economic recovery for over 3 years, but vote for us, because our same old ideas will work this time.
CAN AMERICA SURVIVE MORE MISGOVERNMENT BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY??
And he did it all in the face of the most obstructionist opposition in the history of this country.
