President Obama is now fighting the war of public opinion over his stimulus package. He conducted a town hall meeting in Elkhart Indiana today in an attempt to sway public opinion and in turn, move Congress to pass the bill. Tonight he takes to the airwaves in a television address.
Republicans were successful for a week in swaying public opinion away from the bill but the latest Gallop Poll indicates that 67% of Americans approve of the way the President is handling the economy as opposed to 25% who disapprove. Republicans who felt they had a winning gameplan in opposing the bill received the approval of only 31% of Americans with 58% disapproving of their take on the stimulus package.
We can count on the President to continue his assault and taking it to the people every day until the bill is passed. For anyone who thought that Obama would be a Jimmy Carter type president, they’re quickly learning that Obama’s confidence, intelligence and command of the issues portrays him as a man in charge.
What a difference a couple of months has made in how one views the United States. But then it was never about Americans as a people. No, it was only about a lying and corrupt leadership which held sway over a country, and the world, for 8 long years.
I wish politicians would take off their politician’s hat for a while and wear their countrymen one instead — so they could FEEL! I wish they’d stop playing their political posturing games and get down to the business of repairing their collapsing economy, which would in turn help the global one.
Jill, I’m not going to make claims that Democrats are not guilty of playing politics from time to time. They are, after all, a political party and in politics it’s all about power. But at this moment, with the economic crisis holding center stage, it’s the Republican party that is playing pure politics. They’re holding on to their failed fiscal policies and holding back a bill which is increasingly necessary.
As I’ve written before, Republicans, knowing that the bill will pass without their consent, are praying that it’ll fail and then they’ll be in a position to take back power in Congress in 2010 and the White House in 2012.
If Republicans have shown us anything over the last decade it’s that they’re so blindly locked in to their failed fiscal ideology that the plight of ordinary people becomes a simple casualty for these fat cat bastards.
Why don’t you use current data? I mentioned the Gallop poll which came out today in my post. When asked how each of the following are handling the economic stimulus bill initiative, here’s how Americans responded:
Pay attention son. (Although I should have known better than to use a Canadian Source!) I believe that while your figures are accurate that the majority approve of the way President Obama is handling the situation, still 63% plus DO NOT APPROVE OF THE STIMULUS PLAN.
Your quoted source states, “Recent Gallup polling also shows that a slight majority of Americans in general favor the idea of passing a stimulus plan of around $800 billion, a sentiment that has stayed constant over the last several weeks.
However, virtually every other poll conducted reveals that around 63% of Americans disapprove of the stimulus bill as it was proposed.
NO, why don’t you pay attention. You’ve been throwing that 67% for a week now. I gave you the results of the latest Gallop poll and you still come back with your 67%?
Here’s more polls:
- Rasmussen (Jan 21): 45% for, 39% against
- Gallop (Feb 3): 38% for, 37% against
- CBS (Feb 5): 51% for, 39% against
You can look them up yourself. You’re wrong so just face up to it and stop your silly attempt at nothingness.
No. I said 63% DO NOT FAVOR THE STIMULUS BILL IN IT’S CURRENT FORM.
Get your figures and statements right then get back with me.
I’m just wondering how you people feel about that goofy idiot and traitor, Nancy Pelosi shaping up to be the President’s biggest adversary?
How ignorant can you people be? Obama just stated something like only Government can create the jobs needed. Are you just ignoring that it is a FACT around 90% of new jobs each year are created by small businesses?
And in 2007 (and I’m relying on memory) 100% of new jobs were created by small businesses!!!
Tell you what. I hoped for better but this guy is getting scary.

Why do you omit the fact that the majority of American People (voters) disapprove of this “Stimulus” package?
