Clint brings up mixed emotions in me. I loved many of his movies and thought his put down of xenophobia in the movie “Gran Torino” was admirable as was his stance on gay marriage. His movie “Letters from Iwo Jima” was hailed as great in Japan where it was widely known that a Japanese director trying to make the same statement would have been booed off the stage.
I really admired his half-time tribute to the auto industry. Unfortunately, after staring open-mouthed at his odd performance last night, I just feel sad for him.
The weird thing is that his belief system actuallly mirrors the Ds more than the Rs. I think he does not realize how crazy the right has shifted. It wasn’t always this way. I believe in the 2 party system, we just don’t have 2 sane parties right now.
I first became aware of Clint Eastwood when, as a kid, my mother absolutely forbid letting me see any movie he was in. A friend wanted me to go with him to see Hang ‘Em High, and when I asked, she said, “Is that a Clint Eastwood movie?” I didn’t know, and when she checked and found out that it was, the answer was a resounding “No”.
Eastwood went from being a somewhat wooden actor in cheesy westerns to an okay actor in the Dirty Harry movies and seemed to get much, much better as he aged, and proved to be a more than competent diirector. I guess this convention was his Mel Gibson moment.
Plays perfectly into Kid Kenya’s (that good kid from Chicago) rope-a-dope strategy , if he’s smart…gotta get a little angry, too… Then in the debates float like a butterfly, sting like a bee..whip the Romneyan Shape Shifter’s snake oil ass like a rented mule!!!! I cannot wait…just like Ted kicked his lying ass up in MASS.

Try to be a bit more consistent Clint!
