Glenn Beck’s reached the point where he’s become a caricature of himself. Here’s the ass deriding Michelle Obama’s campaign to fight child obesity.
So now going all out to have government limit the food choices available at our kids’ school, to make sure that grocery stores pop up in what they are calling — and I’m not kidding you — food deserts. There’s no salad bars; it’s a food desert. Then we are going to put the grocery stores instead of fast food businesses.
They’ll limit what we can watch on TV, what ads we can run and how long we can watch. No doubt we’ll start mandating certain kind of activities as part of this wonderful government campaign.
This is torn from the pages of the progressive playbook. You’re too stupid. You need the government to fix your life, and they agree with you that government has no place in this business. But we’re just going to help make things better.
Yes. They’re coming and they are slowly but surely taking away your freedom under the guise of helping you.
Really, does it get any more dumb than this? Every single move by the White House is now a tiresome rant on Obama’s evil plot to take away your freedoms. And as long as he’s got teabaggers lapping up his every word, he’s going to keep on laughing all the way to the bank.

As Democrats struggle to salvage health-care-reform legislation, a new NEWSWEEK Poll shows that while a majority of Americans say they oppose Obama’s plan, a majority actually support the key features of the legislation. The findings support the notion that Democrats have not done a good job of selling the package and that opponents have been successful in framing the debate. The more people know about the legislation, the more likely they are to support major components of it.
When asked about Obama’s plan (without being given any details about what the legislation includes), 49 percent opposed it and 40 percent were in favor. But after hearing key features of the legislation described, 48 percent supported the plan and 43 percent remained opposed.
Clearly, Dems need a way to get the message by the Republican barrage of misinformation and fear-mongering. They’ve got public opinion on their side. The problem is convincing Americans they’re already on the same page.

Well here’s a sign of where Conservatives and Republicans are headed.
One of the hallmarks of post-Buckley, Movement Conservatism has always been the conscious exclusion of the John Birch Society as an extremist group. But at this weekend’s CPAC conference they were finally allowed in. Here’s John Birch Society President John F. McManus, at the Society’s sponsor table.
No one should be surprised. At a time when the biggest thing in the conservative movement are teabaggers denouncing everything Obama, the John Birch Society fits right in. Hey, you can’t ever have too much intolerance and ignorance with today’s modern conservatives.

I’m not a David Gregory fan. Never liked the guy. But it appears that the smartest thing they’ve done over at NBC in the last while is having Rachel Maddow as a regular. Every appearance by Maddow has been a ratings boost for the network with last week’s show drawing over 4 million viewers giving it first place among the Sunday talk shows. There is no one on air at the moment who presents fact and opinion in as refreshing, articulate and clear a manner as Maddow. She is everything a Glenn Beck is not.
Open thread. I’m off to the beach for an early morning walk.

The Democratically-controlled Virginia Senate has voted to allow concealed weapons permit holders to carry guns in restaurants that serve alcohol, as long as the person carrying the weapon does not drink. The gun bill passed on a 22 to 18 vote, after senators had a vigorous debate about whether or not people might have a reasonable reason to carry guns in restaurants.
The arguments from both sides were interesting to say the least.
Sen. Emmett Hanger (R), who sponsored the measure, said he was doing so on behalf of those who now violate the law that prohibits guns in such establishments rather than leave their weapons in their cars when they go out to eat. He said this was a particular issue for women who carry guns in their purses to defend themselves when they go to, say, Red Lobster. (That was Hanger’s example.)
Others argued guns have no place in eating establishments where alcohol is being served. Though the bill would prohibit a weapons carrier from drinking, the opponents said it would be impossible to tell if the law was being violated if the gun was concealed.
The debate was concluded by Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D). “As a final comment, let me just say this. I’ve really never been afraid for my life at the Red Lobster,” she said.
Where the hell is Wyatt Earp when you need him?
