A Cheap Shot at Bush (’cause I can)

.

Watching Obama at yesterday’s health care summit deftly handling questions and displaying a total command of the issues, had me thinking of the last guy in the White House and how totally helpless and pathetic he would of been in that same setting.

How again did the country survive eight years of George Bush?

Yes, I know…barely.

Pot Wars

While pot use is increasing among the older set across the country, California remains the battleground (and testing grounds) for marijuana legalization.

Elitist Bastards

.

Republican Senator John Barrasso was asked the perfect question at yesterday’s health care summit…

Obama:  “Would you be satisfied if every member of Congress just had catastrophic care–you think we’d be better health care purchasers? I mean, is that a change you think we should make?”

Barrasso:  “I think actually we would. We’d really focus on it. We’d have more, as you say, skin in the game. And especially if they had a savings account–a health savings account–they could put their money into that, and they’d be spending the money out of that.”

Obama:  “Would you feel the same way if you were making $40,000. Or if that was your income. Because that’s the reality for a lot of folks.”

Exactly. It is one thing to state that the U.S. has the best health care system in the world or to claim that the only way to fix health care is to do it incrementally, all the while knowing that your millions could buy you anything you wanted in terms of health care. It is quite another to say the same if you’re struggling to cover your insurance premiums or worse, had no insurance.

Elitist bastards.

Final Thoughts On The H/C Summit

.

Six hours of the health care summit and I’ve come to a conclusion.  I could never be a politician for one simple reason.  My bullshit threshold is way too low.  Watching Republicans doing nothing more then chanting the same discredited lies about health care and the bills in Congress is more than I could ever stomach on a daily basis.

I don’t know how Obama does it. He sat there approaching the entire matter as if he was dealing with an opposition who was willing to negotiate in good faith.  Of course, he knew differently but he obviously feels that as President his role is to play daddy and seek harmony.  How much longer he’ll go along that path is anyone’s guess but based on his closing remarks at the summit, he just about gave his blessings for passing a health care bill via reconciliation.

And with that pleasant thought, I’m off to dinner and a night of Olympics on the tube.

Reason #5892 For Thinking Michael Steele is a Dumb Dick

.

Crooks and Liars

Michael Steele went on MSNBC this morning before the health-care summit and began attacking President Obama for a “dog and pony show” — and claimed that the president should have held this summit a year ago, when things were just getting started.

The problem with this: Obama did. On March 5 of last year. Fully televised. All that.

Here’s how it went…

STEELE: This whole dog and pony show that we’re about to witness today is something that should have taken place a year ago, when the administration first came in last February and laid out its agenda for health care. This is how you should have started it – bipartisan, public forum, CSPAN, your cameras rolling to capture this and to capture, most importantly, what the American people want. And right now, they want us to start over, and I think we should.

TODD: Chairman Steele, in fairness to them, I mean, it was a year ago that they actually had a summit.

GUTHRIE: On March 5th.

TODD: And it wasn’t just the legislative leaders. They brought in folks from the industry as well. And that one was televised. So…does that one not count? I’m just curious.

STEELE: Well, apparently it didn’t. Because we don’t have health care.

What?  The last summit doesn’t count because Republicans chose to block any attempt at health care reform?  Is that the way it works?

God, this guy’s a moron.
