There’s Nothing Special About Tim Pawlenty

.

There was a time when I felt that Tim Pawlenty was one of the more palatable Republican leaders out there. I was wrong. As a Newsweek interview reveals, Pawlenty is just another anti-science, anti-gay, religious conservative.

Here are some snippets from the Newsweek piece.

Do you think Palin is qualified to be president?
She is easily as qualified as Barack Obama. I would argue she’s more qualified in terms of leadership, experience, management, and supervision—actually running something. She was a mayor, head of an energy commission, and governor.

He forgot to mention that she is also the least intellectual and most uninformed political leader since the last least intellectual and most uninformed political leaders ever, George W. Bush.

In her book, Palin claims that McCain’s handlers wanted her to be silent about her belief in creationism. How would you describe your view?
I can tell you how we handle it in Minnesota. We leave it to the local school districts. We don’t mandate a curriculum or an approach. We allow for something called “intelligent design” to be discussed as a comparative theory. It doesn’t have to be in science class.

In typical conservative fashion, Pawlenty is in favor of dumbing down America’s children. Anyone who peddles Intelligent Design as anything more than simple Creationism dressed in pseudo-science garb is either a charlatan or a fool.  If one believes in Creationism, fine but don’t try to sell it off as science or as a “comparative theory” to evolution. Call it what it is; religious belief based on faith, not science.

I know you are opposed to gay marriage, but what about medical benefits for same-sex couples?
I have not supported that.

Why not?
My general view on all of this is that marriage is to be defined as being a union of a man and a woman. Marriage should be elevated in our society at a special level. I don’t think all domestic relationships are the equivalent of traditional marriage. Early on we decided as a country and as a state that there was value in a man and a woman being married in terms of impact on children and the like, and we want to encourage that.

Conservative code for “I don’t understand why anyone chooses to be gay and I don’t particularly like them anyway.”

Anyway, as I said…just another anti-science, anti-gay, fundamentalist Christian conservative.  Boring.

A Christmas Gift For President Obama

.

Ventured out into the dark side for my monthly dose of insanity. Here’s a poll they’re running at WorldNutDaily.
.

.

Thought 1.
Any website which has Mr. Wingnut himself, Chuck Norris, as a regular contributor and intellectual guru definitely has a sense of humor.

Thought 2.
Is this where Glenn Beck comes for inspiration?

A typical comment from the WND post…

I would give that smug socialist pig a revolt for Christmas. Since he’s a Muslim and he doesn’t celebrate the holiday, I think that would be appropriate. Maybe a big mosque infront[sic] of his big white house and all his friends can pay in front of it and he be right at home. Or maybe hand him his real birth cirtificate if anyone can find it and tell him your[sic] out of here buddy because you weren’t born it[sic]. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Yes, it would be awesome. And superkeen cool too.

Michael Steele and Bird Flipping

.

It doesn’t appear that RNC chairman Michael Steele is too pleased with the Senate health care vote.

“I’m tired of the Congress flipping the bird to the American people.”

To which Harry Reid responded…

“FU”

Ok, Reid didn’t actually say that…but he wanted to, I’m sure.  Instead he opted for this…

“I’m disappointed that someone with the title Mr. Steele has would be so crass and such a terrible example for the youth of this country.”

I understand Steele is just doing his job but please, get serious.  He’s taking Dems to task for doing what it is they were democratically elected to do.  Republicans are simply unable to deal with the fact that they lost the election and it’s driving them insane.

Implosions are never pretty…for either party.

A Blue-Dog Says Bye

.

A Republican who thought he was a Democrat but now realizes he was a Republican all the while makes it official. Alabama Congressman Parker Griffith switches from dems to reps.

“As most of you know, I was elected by the people of north Alabama as an independent conservative Congressman,” he said in a press conference.

“I have become increasingly concerned that the bills and policies pushed by the current Democratic leadership are not good for north Alabama or our nation and, more importantly, they do not represent my values and convictions,” he said.

Griffith described himself as “pro-business, pro-life and pro-Second Amendment.”

“I am announcing today that I am joining the Republican conference immediately,” he said, saying the GOP is more in line with his beliefs.

So what do conservatives think?

RedState:

Being a Republican should be about more than just the letter next to a person’s name. We can improve that seat.

Club For Growth:

Griffith’s voting record is far from conservative, too. Granted, he voted against the Big 4 – Obama’s first budget, the Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and ObamaCare. However, his vote on the budget is slightly deceptive since he originally voted for 9 of the 12 spending bills that make up the budget. And he voted against all the Stimulus amendments that would reduce its size.

But just a quick perusal of 2009 shows that he voted YES on the 2009 pork-filled Omnibus; YES on Cash for Clunkers, NO on waiving the harmful Davis-Bacon provision, and had a pathetic 0% score on the 2009 RePORK Card.

This party switch signals Griffith’s nervousness, but it doesn’t signal that his incumbency is safe.

Good luck with Griffith passing the Conservative Purity Test.  As for Democrats, it’s one less blue dog to be concerned with.

Amarillo Barack

.

I’m in full agreement with John Cole on this one.

There have definitely been compromises, and there have been letdowns. There have been mistakes, and there have been broken promises. I’m not thrilled with the slow pace of Gitmo, I’m not thrilled about any number of things, but I see slow progress. But there have also been unrealistic expectations- Obama was always a risk averse, cautious, careful person- I remember the many discussions we had here regarding Obama as poker player versus John McCain and his reckless love of roulette, and we used to agree that a cautious poker player who studies the opposition and thinks long ball and treats us like adults was desirable.

I’ve said repeatedly that the only people who really believed that Obama was a left-wing radical were the people on the left who wanted him to be but refused to pay attention and those on the right who wanted to destroy him.

Here’s how he’s doing.
