States have reported using stimulus money to create or save more than 388,000 jobs so far this year, buttressing the Obama administration’s claim that the $787 billion plan has had a significant impact on the economy.
That total, based on a USA TODAY review of reports from 33 states and Puerto Rico, includes teachers, construction workers, and others whose jobs were funded by stimulus money awarded to states. The administration plans Friday to release reports from all 50 states, providing the broadest accounting yet of the stimulus plan’s impact.
No one claimed the economy would be back in full force within a year but the stimulus is doing what was predicted.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger shows us how to express our thoughts honestly even when restricted by political decorum. In a message to the California State Assembly, the Terminator writes.

Schwarzenegger’s office claims it was just “a strange coincidence.”
“When you do so many vetoes, that’s bound to happen.”

Joe Lieberman is entitled to his opinions but he should stop pretending he’s a Democrat. When he supported his buddy John McCain and Caribou Barbie in the last election, he gave up any right he had to refer to himself as a Democrat, independent or otherwise.
“We’re trying to do too much at once,” Lieberman said. “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now.”
[...]
“I can’t see a way in which I could vote for cloture on any bill that contained a creation of a government-operated-run insurance company,” Lieberman added. “It’s just asking for trouble – in the end, the taxpayers are going to pay and probably all people who have health insurance are going to see their premiums go up because there’s going to be cost shifting as there has been for Medicare and Medicaid.”
Again, Lieberman can believe what he wishes (Iraq was a just war, McCain would of been a great president, the country doesn’t need a public option, etc.) but let’s stop the charade.
Here’s hoping the people of Connecticut let Lieberman know what they think of him and his position on the public option.

Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia proves once more why he’s a dinosaur.
“The fight is about the Supreme Court inventing new rights nobody ever thought existed,”
“The only thing you can be sure of is the Constitution will mean whatever the American people want it to mean today,” Scalia continued. ”And that’s not what a constitution is for. The whole purpose of a constitution is to constrain the desires of the current society.”
It is?
Scalia has always been a sorry excuse for a judge. He voted against habeas corpus for Guantanamo Bay detainees, a denial of basic human rights which is only used by dictatorial governments.
I cannot improve on what a poster wrote in regards to the beliefs of Scalia and conservatives in general.
1. The Constitution and its interpretation is the wholly owned property of the Republican party.
2. That all of the “Founding Fathers” would have subscribed to the “Project for a New American Century”.
3. That time should be stuck in 1776. (Similar to Evangelicals believing that time should be stuck in 33 AD.)
4. That democracy is based fundamentally on capitalism.
5. Racism is an imaginary concept similar to global warming. (ie. neither really exist)
UPDATE: The East Valley Tribune has removed quotes attributed to Scalia. I have done the same. My apologies.
A video of Justices Scalia and Breyer can be found here.
Scalia is still a dick, though.
