Ok, so the Senate Finance Committee is discussing the health care bill. Republican Jon Kyl proposes an amendment which would remove any language from the bill that would force employers to include specific benefits.
In defense of his amendment, proud-to-be-an-idiot-male Kyl says…
“I don’t need maternity care. So requiring that on my insurance policy is something that I don’t need and will make the policy more expensive.”
Democrat Debbie Stabenow interrupted him with this zinger…
“I think your mom probably did.”
End of story. The amendment was defeated.

I’m on a fruits and veggie kick of late. I’m in the mood today for walking through an open-air Farmer’s market filled with the smells and sight of foot high mounds of juicy oranges, glistening apples, delectable cherries and luscious green broccoli and lettuce. You’d think finding such a setting would be easy in Miami. It’s not…but I’m determined to find one today.
My mind is also set on having one of my mom’s favorite Sunday afternoon brunches – fresh slices of capicola and prosciutto, tomato slices with bocconcini and basil, hearts of palm, seasoned artichokes, roasted red peppers in olive oil and garlic, olives and crusty Italian bread. No knives or forks necessary.

The people over at RightWingWatch take a look at conservative paranoia.
A steady stream of conspiracy talk by Beck, Bachmann, and others on Fox News has legitimized and propelled conspiracy theories among many everyday Americans who are now terrified of their own government. Talk of rounding up dissidents into concentration camps and nefarious plots by ACORN to steal Congress has fed anti-government sentiment, which could boil over at any moment.
Here is a video compilation of recent Fox News coverage of the 2010 Census — featuring Beck and Bachmann among others — along with three amateur YouTube videos created by Americans who fear the Census

It is no exaggeration to say that many of the people we hear at tea party rallies honestly believe that the president is out to destroy their country. To them I simply say, “You’re all pretty stupid.”
The real problems are the politicians and the conservative media who feed these simpletons a steady diet of misinformation. They have a distinctly different agenda and lie in full knowledge that they are doing so. For Republican politicians, it’s a game they play with the ultimate goal of regaining power. For the conservative media it’s about money and promoting a conservative agenda at any cost. For the former, it’s politics. For the latter, it’s a mission statement.
And in the process, they’re ripping the country apart.
