“Where do you stop? That’s the problem going down that slippery road. Pretty soon we’re going to have a special law for blue-eyed blondes,” Herbert said, adding “we get bogged down sometimes with the minutiae of things that government has really no role to be involved in.”
If one wishes to make the case that there is no discrimination against gays and lesbians in our society and therefore they are undeserving of legal protection, let them try. Their arguments can be easily refuted. But attempting to argue against legal protection for G&L on the basis that they’re nothing more than another minority group equivalent to, say, “blue-eyed blondes” is sheer idiocy. It is no different than saying that all civil rights legislation should be repealed on the basis that African Americans are just another minority group no different than left-handed redheads.
Assuming we can agree that gays and lesbians are indeed discriminated against, what do we do? If we leave it to people like Gov. Herbert, we do nothing.
“We don’t have to have a rule for everybody to do the right thing,” he said. “We ought to just do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do and we don’t have to have a law that punishes us if we don’t.”
We just “do the right thing”. Simple. Smart. Actually, it sounds so good that it should be used in everything that governments of all levels now have their grimy little hands in.
Why not give time for deadbeat parents to change their awful ways and repeal the Bradley Amendment which forces authorities to take action against individuals for past due child support? C’mon, seriously. Should the government be in the business of protecting a bunch of kids who are still to young to vote? Nah, of course not.
Why not give drunks time to recover from their infliction (however long it takes) instead of enforcing state DUI laws which range from removal of a driver’s license to jail time? Why should pedestrians and drivers who choose to drive sober be singled out for special protection from government? It makes no sense. No one needs their government “bogged down sometimes with the minutiae of things that government has really no role to be involved in.”
Gays, lesbians, African Americans, children, women, employers, minorities and even you blued eyed blonds…you’re all on your own but worry not…’cause eventually, some day, everyone’s going to do the right thing. You just need to be patient. You’ll see. It’ll all work out.
In the meantime, remember…a little discrimination never killed anyone.

Larry King was a gay 15-year-old eighth-grade student who was shot to death at his school on February 12, 2008. He wore gender variant clothes, jewelry and make-up and had come out as gay at school. King was bullied and teased by his fellow students due to hiseffeminacy and openness about being gay.
King was shot twice in the head using a handgun. King was declared brain dead the next day.

Where do Republicans find these vitriolic purveyors of stupidity? Do they grow them on farms? Is there some secret laboratory tucked away in some mountain cave where they cultivate them in petri dishes? Are there Palin, Bush, Limbaugh, Gingrich, Bachmann, Beck, Cheney stem cells which are used to replicate copies of Stupid over and over and over again? Unbelievable.
Mike Huckabee on why Ted Kennedy is lucky he did not get ill under the proposed Obama health care plan.
“[I]t was President Obama himself who suggested that seniors who don’t have as long to live might want to consider just taking a pain pill instead of getting an expensive operation to cure them. Yet when Sen. Kennedy was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at 77, did he give up on life and go home to take pain pills and die? Of course not. He freely did what most of us would do. He choose an expensive operation and painful follow up treatments.”
So Huckabee is suggesting that under a new health care plan, seniors will be asked or encouraged to die as opposed to seeking treatment. Anybody still want to try the bipartisan shtick?
They’re tiring me out, I tell ya.

This video is old but I’m posting it for a number of reasons. 1. I like baseball. 2. I love Denis Leary’s sick, sick humor. 3. I think it’s funny and finally, I’m posting it ’cause I really don’t like Mel Gibson and his Jew-hating ways. Anytime I can laugh at this bigoted, alcoholic fool, it’s a good day. .

I smile every time I read of some wingnut defending Fox. They quote ratings as if it’s some kind of indicator of quality. NOVA and Frontline have a much smaller audience than most reality shows. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would attempt to make the case that The Bachelor has anything over either one of those PBS programs in terms of quality, truth or integrity. Fox serves a need in many for escapism while Frontline’s role is to inform. Simple enough to understand, I think.
Fox serves a function. It satisfies the needs of conservatives who require vindication for their beliefs and Fox does a good job in that regard. Lies, half-truths and misinformation are what they serve and the saps who tune in every day sit there salivating at every word. The sad part is that the majority of these pathetic fools are not even aware that they’re being lied to. They take in the garbage spoken by Beck, O’Reilly and Hannity and then repeat it as if it’s the gospel, for you see, they heard it on the Fox teevee so it has to be true. It’s what they want to believe. It’s what they need to believe.
Poll after poll has shown that on issues, Fox viewers are those most likely to cling on to lies which have been debunked time and time again. Obama is a Kenyan, death panels are in the reform bill, Saddam Hussein was involved in 9/11 and so on.
So the next time a wingnut tells you that President Obama is a Nazi and that he’s trying to form an oligarhy, or an oligarchy even – whichever, just smile and know that you’re listening to a sorry fool who is unable to distinguish truth from nonsense. They live in a simplistic world where everything is painted in huge swatches of black or white. They cling on to Fox like a child clinging on to their pillow when late at night the wind blowing through the trees outside their bedroom window sounds, at least in their minuscule minds, not unlike monsters under their bed.
No amount of reasoning can help them overcome what they’ve already convinced themselves to be the truth. And for them I have but a single word. BOO!
