How do Republicans live with themselves? Nothing points out their hypocrisy more than the health care debate. RNC chairman Michael Steele in a speech he’ll give today…
“Obama-Pelosi want to start building a colossal, closed health care system where Washington decides. Republicans want and support an open health care system where patients and doctors make the decisions.”
The problem here is not one of opposing President Obama’s health care plan. It’s doing it on the basis of the same lies they’ve been using since Clinton tried his reform. Statements like “closed health care system” are ridiculous. The president has made it clear that his plan will offer a public plan in addition to keeping the private plan in place.
Also, making the repeated claim that under the current system “patients and doctors make the decisions” is a blatant lie. It’s the health insurers who have the final say. They know it but hey, repeat the same lie enough times and some fool will believe it.
Again…having valid arguments in opposition to any reform is fine and welcome. But to spout outright lies as Republicans and some Democrats are doing is totally unacceptable regardless of the issue at hand but even more so when it comes to health care. While these buffoons bow to the health industry’s lobbyists and repeat their tired talking points, people suffer.
In response, Obama is planning a full out assault this week in laying out his plan.
With skepticism about the president’s health-care reform effort mounting on Capitol Hill — even within his own party — the White House has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to dramatically increase public pressure on Congress: all Obama, all the time.
Healthy debate and honest attempts at fixing a broken system is a good thing. Proposing amendments which would strengthen the proposed plan is also a good thing. Endlessly and knowingly repeating lies is sinful.

HuffPo chronicled Sarah Palin’s June ’08 attendance at her church’s Samurai Sword event which presented swords to young members in the name of God and Palin’s association with Mary Glazer, a high level leader in a religious movement– the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). The NAR hungers to ” take control of religion, family, education, arts and entertainment, media, government” known in their vernacular as the 7 kingdoms.
Sarah attended the Wasilla Assembly of God church for two decades so likely she was presented with a Sword in similar ceremony. Though we may never know because almost all church records were wiped from the face of the earth right before Senator McCain announced Palin’s running mate status.
It’s clear now what Palin was saying in her step down speech about helping her country but just not in a governmental venue. She’s taking up the sword, she’s a warrior for God under the Wasilla Assembly of God Church and the NAR’s direction. What concerns me about the NAR is they have sanctioned themselves as God’s warriors. They battle witches, demons and seek to cleanse the earth of unbelievers. This sounds exactly like the fundamentalist jihadists who say they are backed by God to rid the world of infidels. Since humans evolved they have taken up swords in the name of God to oppress the nonbeliever. There were the Crusades, Salem Witch Trials, War on Terror, Ottoman’s Byzantine invasion, Spain’s Mexico invasion, and England’s invasion of just about everybody. Besides God, what these religious wars have in common is the loss of countless lives, oppression of countless peoples, loss of countless historical texts; all this loss in an attempt to spread the sword wielder’s word of God. And before God there were wars in the name of Ares, Seth, Mars, the Sun, the Moon, and the woolly mammoth. But did these wars accomplish anything really? History says no, there are still countless religious and spiritual paths, witches, demons, and unbelievers and even if the NAR is marginally successful (that’s a five mile high neon IF) there will still be countless religious and spiritual paths, witches, demons, unbelievers and…the fallen members of their movement.
The NAR isn’t any different than other religions asserting their God is the only God, join or go to Hell but where they differ is this undemocratic organization wants to take over and then give people a chance to convert. Or what? be damned, be killed? The danger in this organization is its oppressive love affair with hate and its interlock with other hate groups to raise more hate warriors. They seek to turn this democracy into a theocracy with their God at the titular head and their ministers in charge of us all. Scary stuff and only the tip of the NAR iceberg. So as you ponder the scary NAR, this Buddhist/Hindu/Christian/Jewish/Pagan woman is going to her neighborhood wiccan to see about a spell.
The colorful foam clogs appeared in 2002, just as the country was recovering from a recession. Brash and bright, they were a cheap investment (about $30) that felt good and promised to last forever. Former president George W. Bush wore them. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler wore them. Your grandma wore them. They roared along with the economy, mocked by the fashion world but selling 100 million pairs in seven years.
Then the boom times went bust, and Crocs went to the back of the closet.
The company had expanded to meet demand, but financially pressed customers cut back. Last year the company lost $185.1 million, slashed roughly 2,000 jobs and scrambled to find money to pay down millions in debt.
“The company’s toast,” said Damon Vickers, who manages an investment fund at Nine Points Capital Partners in Seattle. “They’re zombie-ish. They’re dead and they don’t know it.”
Hmmm. When Crocs first emerged on the scene, I hated them and thought they were just plain ugly. Then about a year later a friend of mine purchased Crocs and they looked so good with jeans, I thought I’d buy myself a pair. But I never did get around to it (no, it’s not my infamous #19).
Not a problem, I’m happy with my Sperry boat shoes and Crocs were ugly anyway.
