If you missed it, President Obama killed a fly during a televised interview. PETA took offense to the brutal act and sent Obama a catch-and-release bug catcher (see pic above).
“We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals,” PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. “We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals.”
I agree. I did find Obama’s attitude in swatting that fly somewhat heartless. I’ll admit I’ve killed my share of bugs but I’ve changed my attitude over the last number of years. I do my darnedest now to trap any insect I find in the house and release it unharmed to the outdoors. The years are mellowing me out.
Here’s the violent scene… .

I just wrote a 300 word post on the Iranian protests which mysteriously got swallowed up by my laptop. I can’t locate it anywhere. I have to run out so I have no time to recreate it. You’ll just have to take my word that it was brilliant. My best stuff yet.
Quick summary: the images coming out of Iran are amazing and no one can predict the outcome. It might become another Tienanmen Square or it might lead to the beginning of change in the Middle East the world has been waiting for. Unlike the failed Iranian protests of 10 years ago by university students, the hundreds of thousands now marching the streets of Tehran are made up of people from all walks of life.
Chilling and dramatic stuff.

Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up. Here are Republicans on why the insufferable oppression felt by their party at the hands of the Evil Democrats is not unlike the type we’re witnessing in Iran.
“I wonder if there isn’t more freedom on the streets of Tehran right now than we are seeing here,” ripped Rep. David Dreier (R-Calif.), the ranking Republican on the Rules Committee.
Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) had this to say on oppression at home…
“Oppressed minorities include HouseRepubs: We are using social media to expose repression such as last night’s D clampdown shutting off amends.”
Leave it to Reps to compare bullets in the head to their “suffering”. People in Iran are risking their lives in writing on the protests or uploading pictures and videos. How does anyone take Republican whining seriously anymore?
The remarkable Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) twittered this gem…
Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House.
The Twitter responses he received were so perfect…and funny. Here’s a few…
chrisbaskind @petehoekstra My neighbor stopped me to talk today. Now I know what it is like to be questioned by the Basij!
aciolino @petehoekstra Today I poked my finger on a hanger. Now I know what all those aborted babies go through.
MattOrtega Walked out onto Constitution Ave in D.C. and was almost hit by a taxi. Reminded me of Tienanmen Square.
TahirDuckett @petehoekstra ran through the sprinklers this morning, claimed solidarity with victims of Hurricane Katrina
