MCCLATCHY: Well — how many cigarettes a day do you smoke? Do you smoke alone or in the presence of other people? And do you believe the new law would help you to quit and why?
OBAMA: Well, first of all the new law that was put in place is not about me, it’s about the next generation of kids coming up. So I think it’s fair, Margaret, to just say that you just think it’s neat to ask me about my smoking as opposed to if — being relevant to my new law. But that’s fine. I understand. It’s an interesting human interest story. Look. I’ve said before that as a former smoker, I constantly struggle with it. Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No. I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family. You know, I would say that I am 95 percent cured, but there are times where — there are times when I mess up. And I’ve said this before. I get this question about once every month or so. And I don’t know what to tell you other than the fact that, you know, like folks who go to AA, you know, once you’ve gone down this path, then it’s something you continually struggle with. Which is precisely why the legislation we signed was so important. Because what we don’t want is kids going down that path in the first place. Okay?
Well, at least he didn’t say, “Yes, I’m still smoking but I don’t inhale.”

Recently released tapes reveal some interesting thoughts Richard Nixon held on the relevance and impact of Roe v. Wade back in 1973.
Nixon worried that greater access to abortions would foster “permissiveness,” and said that “it breaks the family.” But he also saw a need for abortion in some cases, such as interracial pregnancies.
“There are times when an abortion is necessary. I know that. When you have a black and a white,” he told an aide, before adding: “Or a rape.”
The guy was an all around dick. But you knew that.

The Obama age is upon us and has entered the realm of health care reform. One of the great successes of the Obama election campaign was his ability to take his message right to the people via the Internet. Through expert and intricate use of social networking and the online world of communication, the Obama campaign was able to raise hundreds of millions in contributions and to personalize his message unlike anyone before him.
With the online machinery and technology already in place, the Obama administration will now put it to use in selling his health care reform plan by use of a “health care story bank“. The government will make available an online database of personal stories by individuals who are suffering under the current health care system. Brilliant. It is one thing to tell someone who has a comfortable health care plan in place that health care reform is needed and quite another to have them hear the same from a fellow American who has mortgaged his house to the hilt to pay for an operation.
Here is an example of what the story bank will be like…

I’m trying something new in the way comments are displayed. Instead of nesting replys, comments will now follow each other with the oldest ones at the top. I found it confusing in trying to pick out the latest comments when they were nested and buried on the page.
When replying to someone, try using the ‘@’ symbol, as in…

Twitter has helped to empower a nation yearning for freedom and justice.
Iran, in censoring and condemning Western nations and media outlets from covering the post-election unrest, have been unable to reign in the power of social networking giants like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. The end result is that citizen-journalists have had an unprecedented impact in bringing a fast moving story to the world. Unable to gather news in a conventional form, new outlets like CNN are using Twitter ‘tweets’ and cellphone videos to tell the story of the Iranian revolution. The media ban by the Iranian government has backfired and the world press has become the PR agent for the protesters.
And with that segue…
