There’s an ad out from NOM – The National Organization for Marriage – titled The Gathering Storm. Have a look.
“My freedom will be taken away. They want to change the way I live.” Really? And how is that? How does the marriage of two people who happen to be of the same sex affect your life one iota more than how the marriage of your next door neighbors impacts your life? Answer that question, please.
Here is a youTube response video which pretty much expresses what these bigoted homophobes are really saying.

The Obama White House made two significant decisions yesterday. It vowed to end the torture practices used by the Bush administration on enemy combatants – the administration which gave us Abu Gharaib and waterboarding. Obama has also decided to not pursue legal action against government agents who took part in the acts of torture. And with that, as the Washington Post notes, the President has “struck exactly the right balance.”
“The administration announced that it would not seek to press criminal charges against CIA operatives who participated in enhanced interrogations of terrorism suspects during the Bush administration. “It would be unfair to prosecute dedicated men and women working to protect America for conduct that was sanctioned in advance by the Justice Department,” Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said in a statement.
At the same time, the Justice Department released and repudiated four more Bush-era memos from the Office of Legal Counsel that provided the legal justification for such extreme interrogations. An Aug. 1, 2002, OLC memo endorsed the legality of 10 techniques the CIA considered for use against al-Qaeda leader Abu Zubaida. Some techniques were mild, such as holding the detainee’s face or grasping him by the lapels to grab his attention. Others were despicable, such as waterboarding, in which water is poured over a prisoner’s cloth-covered face to simulate drowning, or sleep deprivation for up to 11 days .”
Writer Christopher Hitchens subjected himself to waterboarding for an article he wrote in Vanity Fair. Here’s a video clip which demonstrates this torturous act.
Hitchens writes, “I apply the Abraham Lincoln test for moral casuistry: “If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.” Well, then, if waterboarding does not constitute torture, then there is no such thing as torture.”
In summary, from the Washington Post…
“By repudiating the memos, the Obama administration has again seized the high ground and restored some of the honor lost over the past few years. President Obama’s actions not only restore confidence that this country will not torture, but he has also strengthened the nation’s moral authority in condemning these heinous acts wherever they occur.”
There are times when there is a clear distinction between right and wrong. This is one of those times.

If you’ve yet had the opportunity to visit either Texas or Georgia and wish to do so without having to use your US passport…well, you best hurry.
I love San Antonio…and my good friend Coleen tells me that Austin is a great place…so it would be a real shame if the country lost Texas to secession. It could happen, you know. Texas Gov. Rick Perry told us so. Maybe not tomorrow or next week, but if that maniacal president continues with his oppressive ways, well…then Perry’s all for it.
“Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax “tea party” Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states’ rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, “Secede!”
An animated Perry told the crowd at Austin City Hall — one of three tea parties he was attending across the state — that officials in Washington have abandoned the country’s founding principles of limited government. He said the federal government is strangling Americans with taxation, spending and debt.”
“There’s a lot of different scenarios,” Perry said. “We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.”
This of course, was after the spending and debt from the last administration. Perry and his supporters were happy with Republican waste. It’s Democrat spending which has him upset. Understandable.
“I’ve been telling people for quite a while now how great it would be if Texas were to secede–it’s big enough to be a separate country (and, of course, it was at one point, with President Sam Houston). Texas Governor Rick Perry has become my new favorite governor, by publicly entertaining the idea of secession.”
“Now I think Perry is mistaken about the treaty of annexation whereby Texas joined the Union–it merely contemplated Texas splitting up into 5 separate states–and that would probably require Congress’s approval anyway.”
Details, Lew…mere details.
On top of Texas’ threat comes news that the Georgia Senate voted 43-1 in passing Senate Resolution 632 which threatens secession and…horrors!!…disbandment of the United States of America!
“It wasn’t quite the firing on Fort Sumter that launched the Civil War. But on April 1, your Georgia Senate did threaten by a vote of 43-1 to secede from and even disband the United States.
It was not an April Fool’s joke.
In fact, Senate Resolution 632 did a lot more than merely threaten to end this country. It stated that under the Constitution, the only crimes the federal government could prosecute were treason, piracy and slavery.
“Therefore, all acts of Congress which assume to create, define or punish [other] crimes … are altogether void, and of no force,” the Georgia Senate declared.”
Gotta love that crazy talk!

After writing yesterday’s blog post The Tea Party Fraud and having mentioned a specific sign (Down With Sodomy: Up With Teabagging), I found it amusing receiving one of my favorite newsletters in my Inbox this morning. Daniel Kurtzman’s Political Humor newsletter is one which I look forward to each week. He just updated his website this morning and lo and behold, front page and center is that very sign.
Daniel does a wonderful roundup of all the Tea Party hijinks from the last week with a series of political cartoons as well as what the late night comedians have had to say about it all. It’s good stuff. In full disclosure, I am kind of partial to Daniel’s site in that he’s published four of my illustrations…but that aside, it’s a great place to go to get your fill of political humor.
By the way, for those of you who live within the confines of Fixed News and had no idea of what teabagging meant, check out this YouTube video. Hmmm…then again, maybe not. If you are easily offended by drawings of human genitalia, stay away! You were warned! (too funny!)
