Fox’s Shepard Smith on Torture

You’re not going to see this site going to Fox News for confirmation of much of what I believe in. Anyone with an honest bone in their body and an IQ above that of a zucchini knows very well what Fox is all about. We have no need to go there at the moment. But, I’m starting to like this guy Shepard Smith. In Fox’s fertile bed of lying sleazebags, Smith appears to actually have a conscience.

Nice. I wonder how long Smith keeps his job at Fox.

Bush On Torture…

This tape of Bush from February 2008 seems even more relevant now …

Combined with his “We don’t torture” refrain, Bush either doesn’t know what torture is or he lied.

The Alaskan Hunter – Sarah Palin

sarah palin http://mariopiperni.com

I was doing my tour of wingnut sites and I came across this little gem on RedState.

NRA members, keep an eye out for your copy of May’s American Rifleman, if it hasn’t already arrived. According to the latest edition of the magazine, Bob Reynolds, gunsmith and owner of Templar Consulting LLC, will make a special presentation at the NRA Foundation Banquet on May 14.

It’s a modified AR-15 (civilian version of the milspec M16 rifle), specially customized in honor of Gov. Sarah Palin and dubbed “The Alaskan Hunter”.

Chambered for .50 Beowulf instead of the standard 5.56mm cartridge, this special AR features several custom engravings. The Big Dipper is on the magazine well, an outline of the state of Alaska is on the stock, and on the upper receiver are a moose, the NRA logo and an inscription, “In Honor of Governor Sarah Palin.“”

Very impressive.  Big Dipper and a moose engraved on the same rifle.   I like that.

Actually, I was cool with all of this right up to this last line…

That sound you hear is being made by Palin-haters’ heads (spontaneously) exploding.”

That was uncalled for, I think.

Obama The Manager

Obama as Manager

Obama as Manager

This is day 94 of the Obama presidency. As David Broder writes in today’s Washington Post

Remember this: What has happened so far is no more than the overture to the first act of this opera. The big stuff is still to come. The soprano has not opened her mouth for her signature aria. That will be health-care reform. The devilish baritone is still offstage. Wait for the first international crisis.

Barack Obama has launched a lot of initiatives but has fulfilled few of them. What he has shown — and it is an important accomplishment in itself — is a mastery of the art of managing the presidency.”

So true.  Depending on where one stands on the issues, there is much to either praise or criticize.  What cannot be denied though is that Obama has demonstrated managerial skills beyond anyone’s wildest expectations.

It [managerial skills] is important because it is the first and most basic test of his ultimate ability to be a successful president. And it is surprising, because there was no reason to assume that he had the skills to direct such a large enterprise.”

Hardly a day has gone by since Obama assumed the presidency that he has not been on television explaining, as only a former professor could, the detailed reasoning behind each and every policy he’s enacted.  This is in stark contrast to our last president who shied away from the cameras.  I have no doubt that this was more a case of Bush following the advice of his handlers than he having any really awareness of his ineptness and lack of depth of knowledge on the issues of the day.

Few presidents have had to confront their first 100 days in office with as many crises as Obama has.  Dem or Rep, you have to give him an A+ on this one.
