Obama, Somalian Pirates and the Fox News Clowns

Glenn Beck - Pirate at Large

DailyKos put together a great little video montage of Fixed News and Republicans criticizing the president over his handling of the Somalian pirate incident.  Of couse this was before Navy Seals shot and killed three of the pirates and freed the American captain.

Watch this clip and if you did not understand before this why Glenn Beck is a moronic fraud and Fixed News is a cartoon news network, you will now.

Great clip.  Take a look.  (ty coleen)

Fox and the Tea Party Mania

Fox Promoted Tea Party Mania

Fox Promoted Tea Party Mania

Fox News has been going gung-ho on the upcoming April 15 Tea Parties where the masses will have the opportunity to gather and express their anger and dismay at President Obama’s fiscal policies.  In truth, the events have turned into a much bigger phenomena where Obama haters of every stripe will show up to express their views on matters fiscal or not.

There have been a number of pre-TeaParty events over the last month where the crazies have congregated to voice there irrational thoughts from Obama being a Marxist to their firm belief that he’s not a true American born citizen.  And behind the furor is Fox, urging on the whackos and feeding them a strong diet of lies and misinformation to fuel their insatiable appetite for reasons to hate Obama.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.  Fox News along with a good segment of the conservative media is a divisive and ugly part of America.  And it has nothing to do with their conservative agenda but has everything to do with the way they promote that agenda.  Having an ideology which differs from your own is fine.  In fact any healthy society or democracy demands that there be an opposing voice in that it helps keep a nation from swaying too far off course.  The problem with Fox is that they lie.  And they do so under the guise of being a fair and balanced news network.  You only need to listen to those who defend Fox to understand how influential and successful Fox has become in duping their listeners into believing whatever Fox’s one-sided agenda demands.

The tools of ignorance swing mightily.

More on how Fox covers news in my next post in regards to the Somalian pirate incident.

Here’s a graphic from the fair and balanced news network’s web site – The Fox Nation.  C’mon crazies…get out there and yell your disgust for everything Obama!  We’ve got to win those 2010 midterms!

Limbaugh Attacks Easter – Typical Right Wing Smear!

Not really.  I just wanted to get your attention so I could show you a picture of my Easter bread.  Ain’t it pretty?

easter-bread

I spent Saturday baking Easter bread.  And I do mean Saturday…all of Saturday.  From starter dough to that first succulent slice, it’s a seven and a half hour job.  Not only that, but I made two batches.  What this all means is that I ended up going to bed really late.  But it was worth it.  A cup of coffee and a buttered slice of my freshly baked Easter bread at 4 am was so very perfect.

Although I’ve had thousands, maybe millions, of requests for my recipe, I’m not ready to divulge it to the world.  I’ll just say that it’s a hybrid – 70% my mom’s recipe, 20% Joy of Cooking and 10% mario messing around in the kitchen.  What I will give you though is the advice my mother passed on to all who would dare put on an apron and take part in the culinary experience.

She’d say that whenever cooking or baking, it was essential that we be at peace with the world.   Our surroundings must be tranquil for if not, any internal anger would be transferred to the bread…or pasta sauce or whatever other delectable creation we’d be working on.  And so, she’d tell me…when in the kitchen, sing, dance, whatever…just be happy!

Happy Easter or Happy Sunday…whichever best applies.

The Growing Lunacy of the Conservative Media

Conservative Media

Conservative Media

President Obama has driven the right to the brink of insanity.  And that, I believe, is an understatement.

There is an all out assault by the crazies to portray Obama as a socialist, a Marxist, a Boshevik and a dictator as the rhetoric,  lies and smear builds with each passing day.  To call these people wingnuts would be an insult to all true wingnuts.  The right has lost control of its senses.  Logic and reasoning have been replaced by baseless fear mongering as they propagate lies in a manner unseen before.

MediaMatters has compiled a partial list of some of what the conservative media dishes out to its unknowing audience each day.  Here’s a sampling of some of what the right wing media has been saying about the president over the last week.  (Links to the full text can be found at MediaMatters.)

Sean Hannity

“The federal government — and I don’t think I overstate this for our audience — is destroying our economic system as we currently know it. You have written that it’s socialism, and it’s mismanaged socialist.”

“[T]his is just the beginning. The administration is on a mission to hijack capitalism in favor of collectivism, to turn health care into a nationalized affair, and to redistribute the wealth of America. The Bolsheviks have already arrived, and they’re here.”

“Is the budget a way to completely control our lives? And could it destroy us?”

“If the government takes too much money and nationalizes everything, I’m telling you, there are gonna be dire consequences, because we’re gonna — just like if it was a terror attack against America, Americans will get hurt.”

“So if we put all these things together — that they control executive pay, that they can take over firms, retroactively tax people or target individuals as they did — you used the term ‘dictatorship.’ That moves America towards a dictatorship?”  Newt Gingrich responded, “Look, it absolutely moves you towards a political dictatorship.”

Glenn Beck

“I read an article on Bloomberg last night that said the Manchurian Candidate couldn’t destroy us faster than Barack Obama. If you were planning a sleeper to come in and become the president of the United States and dismantle us and take us down, this is how he would do it.

Radio host Steve Malzberg

“I would think that most independent-minded people would understand what this man is all about, that this man does not love this country, that this man is trying to do what Hugo Chavez has done to Venezuela.”

Michael Savage

“Obama has a plan to force children into a paramilitary domestic army. It was exposed yesterday on WorldNetDaily.”

Savage declared that the American people are “watching a dictatorship emerge” out of Obama’s presidency and added: “I think it is time to start talking about impeachment. Somebody’s got to get this guy under control. He’s out of control.”

Lee Rodgers

The Lee Rodgers Program, Rodgers discussed “Obama’s relationship with the Islamic world” and said, “I don’t make any bones about it. I think the guy’s out to sell us out. I really do.”

Add to all of this the tea party protests which in part call for civil disobedience.  And there is still a large group of crackpots who are claiming President Obama is ineligible to be president because he was supposedly born in Kenya as they attempt to take their lunacy to the courts.   Insanity has become the order of the day in conservative circles.

We’d be able to laugh at much of this if it was not for the fact that the simpletons who buy into this crap are getting truly scared.   Many believe that their guns and jobs and health care and liberties will be taken away from them.   There is a growing sense that their freedoms are in jeopardy as they tune in daily to the liars at Fixed News or listen to the unadulterated smear from buffoons like Savage and Hannity.

How does one have discourse with an individual who begins from the position that Obama is a dictator and Bolshevik?  You can’t.

Yes, Mr. Savage, something is out of control and it’s you and your lying cohorts.  It would be all so funny if it was not so damn frightening.

Obama, Notre Dame, Catholicism and Politics

Catholic hypocrisy and politics

Catholic hypocrisy and politics

President Obama is scheduled to give the commencement speech at Notre Dame University, the country’s preeminent Catholic school.   Some Catholics are creating an uproar and are asking Notre Dame to cancel the president’s visit on the following grounds: on the abortion issue, President Obama is pro-choice. The Catholic Church is pro-life and thus the protesters believe that it is immoral for a Catholic university to invite a pro-choice president to speak at its school.

I have my thoughts on this topic but first you should treat yourself to the following heated debate between conservative and catholic Pat Buchanan and liberal Lawrence O’Donnell. It is good.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Good debate but you’d have to give the victory to O’Donnell. The point he makes is hard to dispute. The Catholic Church opposes both abortion and capital punishment. As governor of Texas, George W. Bush allowed the execution of 152 people – a record for any governor in the history of the US.  No one opposed President Bush speaking at Notre Dame during his time in the White House and yet some Catholics and Republican congressmen are now yelling from the rooftops for the university to rescind President Obama’s scheduled speech.

This is hypocrisy of the highest order and speaks more about politics than it does about moral indignation.  It is time for religion to get the hell out of politics.  Catholics should be more concerned about cleaning up their tainted church than they should be about a president’s commencement speech at a Catholic university.
