“Just beyond the new swings the Obamas have installed for Sasha and Malia in the grounds of the White House, the first lady and 26 Washington schoolchildren began digging a 1,100-square-foot organic kitchen garden on the South Lawn.”
“…Obama’s seemingly simple move is seen by many as a political statement akin to Eleanor Roosevelt’s 1943 victory garden. Food activists, led by the California chef and Chez Panisse founder Alice Waters, have been lobbying for an organic White House garden since 1993. Now they are celebrating what they call a new “victory” garden. It sent out a message, Waters said, “that everyone can grow a garden and have free food.“”
So there you go. Amidst the economic strife, the political battles and every other ill facing Americans, it’s the little things we do which add the most meaning to our lives. You might not have a south lawn and your address might not be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue but hey, it’s Spring time. Go out and build yourself a garden!

Millions of jobs are being lost monthly! Millions of homes are facing foreclosure! The entire banking industry is on the verge of collapse! Scumbag corporate heads are taking our money as their fortunes grow while the rest of us watch our life’s savings dwindle away! The terrorists are knocking at our door and Iran wants to nuke the world! And all the while, our politicians are less concerned about the people they serve than they are about fulfilling their own self-serving agendas!!
What do we do?!!? Tell me…what do we do?!!?

“Congressional Republicans are telling Dick Cheney to go back to his undisclosed location and leave them alone to rebuild the Republican Party without his input.”
“Displeased with the former vice-president’s recent media appearances, Republican lawmakers say he’s hurting GOP efforts to reinvent itself after back-to-back electoral drubbings.”
“The veep, who showed a penchant for secrecy during eight years in the White House, has popped up in media interviews to defend the Bush-Cheney record while suggesting that the country is not as safe under President Obama.”
“Rep. John Duncan Jr. (R-Tenn.) said, “He became so unpopular while he was in the White House that it would probably be better for us politically if he wouldn’t be so public…But he has the right to speak out since he’s a private citizen.”
Another House Republican lawmaker who requested anonymity said he wasn’t surprised that Cheney has strongly criticized Obama early in his term, but argued that it’s not helping the GOP cause.
The legislator said Cheney, whose approval ratings were lower than President Bush’s during the last Congress, didn’t think through the political implications of going after Obama.
Cheney did “House Republicans no favors,” the lawmaker said, adding, “I could never understand him anyway.””
Hmmm…who was that great conservative who famously said that Republicans should never speak ill of fellow Republicans? Ronald Reagan, was it?

If you’re still not convinced that Fox News is a disgusting heap of trash, see if this helps. On a week where four more Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, Fox News found it appopriate to mock Canada, calling it a “ridiculous country” and make disparaging remarks about the Canadian military. Here’s the segment from the late night show “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” on Fox News.
Canadians have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001 and 116 Canadians have been killed so far fighting in the country’s most dangerous areas. Canadian Defense Minister, Peter MacKay has asked for an apology from Fox.
“It’s crass, it’s insensitive, it’s in fact disgusting, given the timing. There should be an apology – to the families in particular, and to the Canadian Forces and to Canada generally – given the sacrifice and the commitment that we’ve demonstrated in Afghanistan“, MacKay said.
This was not a segment on Leno or Letterman. It was not some late night talk show on ABC or NBC. No, this trash was shown on a supposed cable ‘news’ network. Furthermore, this is not the first time that Fox commentators have made fun of Canada – the same Canada which happens to be the U.S.’s number one trading partner and the same Canada which has been fighting alongside Americans in the war on terror from day one.
Fox prides itself in waving the American flag and pronouncing the U.S as the only worthwhile country in the world. It is exactly this type of narrow-minded false adulation of self which hurts the country and isolates it further from the hearts and minds of the world community.
Mocking a country which has given the lives of its young men and women in the aftermath of 9/11 is repugnant. When Fox News aids in belittling its closest neighbor and friend, there is only one appropriate response to the scum who run that network: go f**k yourself.
